The FilmGuru has written movie and television reviews since the early days of the Internet, beginning with a startup e-zine called cyber.city Magazine.

After several years with the magazine, he started up his own website called FilmGuru.Net in 2002. The new website was a springboard to becoming a featured film reviewer for The Aisle Seat on KTWU in Topeka, Kansas.

In addition to writing reviews, he has also written about film and television for a number of other websites, including A.D. After Disclosure and BuddyTV.

From The FilmGuru:

I’ve been an avid moviegoer since the mid 1980s. In addition to seeing innumerable films over the last 30 years, I also take time to study the film process, as well as the artists who write and direct them.

People are always asking me to name my favorite movie. My standard response is always to give my top three: The Godfather, Casablanca, and Star Wars. I think that’s a bit of a cheat. While all of these are great films for one reason or another, I don’t think any of them really speaks to who I am or what I believe makes the perfect film. These are my a few of my favorites, but I have dozens of others I could list just as easily. For instance, one of my favorite comedies is Midnight Run, with Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin. My favorite superhero movie is The Dark Knight. I love romantic comedies starring Drew Barrymore, especially The Wedding Singer. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is pretty damned close to perfection. And if you asked me to name a movie that I hate to admit I like, I’d probably tell you I love Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

But the movie that probably best defines me and my tastes is M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable. This is a very important movie to me personally. It speaks to who I am on many levels, and it may be one of the best comic book movies ever made.

When not in a darkened theater, I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife. We do everything together, including watching awful horror movies and giving them the MST3K treatment.  I love to read (mostly science fiction and fantasy), write, and play video games.

I also enjoy listening to movie scores and soundtracks. My favorite is James Horner’s score to Disney’s The Rocketeer.
