Rick Perry Likes Smack

J. Edgar (2011)

Bryce Zabel, Editor-in-ChiefYou know that here at The Smack we’re all about looking at movies through different filters. You’ve got your basic Smackdown, where we review two films in competition with each other; then you’ve got your Smashup, where we throw two film trailers into an atom collider and see what happens. And there is also this, Smacktalk, which is our way to comment on a film by taking those ubiquitous publicity stills and having our way with them.

Armed only with an iMac, some Comic Life Magiq software and a serious authority issue, we add some unexpected life to them, putting new words in the actor’s mouths, sometimes commenting about the movie or Hollywood or what’s in the news.

Granted this process sometimes involves profanity, sexual innuendo, a jaded eye on politics and the celebrity machine we’ve all become cogs in these days, and (okay, more than sometimes) a juvenile sense of humor. Best of all, they’re protected free speech and fall under the definition of fair use.

Anyway, by way of introduction, here are some of our favorites from some recent Smacks in the fall of 2011…

Immortals

Very Harold & Kumar Christmas (2011)

Tower Heist (2011)

Jack and Jill

Real Steel (2011)Thing (2011)

About Bryce Zabel

Drawing inspiration from career experiences as a CNN correspondent, TV Academy chairman, writer/producer and fast-food cook, Bryce is the Editor-in-Chief of Movie Smackdown. While he freely admits to having written the screenplay for the reviewer-savaged "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation," he hopes the fact that he also won the Writers Guild award a couple of years ago will cause you to cut him some slack. He's also a member of the Directors Guild, creator of five primetime network TV series, and author of a new non-fiction book about UFOs.
